ADDICTED TO COKE

One might think that their aggressive marketing techniques have gotten to me.
They attack with one of the most fearful weapons on earth: Mass Media.
Everywhere they press their merchandise almost literally down my throat.
Magazines, billboards and the way it is always shelved so conveniently to my reach.
But it’s not that!I firmly believe that I’m completely immune to any form of advertising.
The only type of advertising that might trigger a reaction is the informative one.
If I’ve had in mind that I need product so and so, then if I would see and ad about it, I would go out and make a purchase.I (almost) never feel that I need something just because it’s advertised.
Neither do I run out to every store that has a “ big “sales day.It has come to my attention that the only “sale” really going on, is for the storeowner.
As religious Jew, I’ve been immunized from my younger years, not to pay too much attention in general to publicity, as so many of the ads are for food products there’s no way I’ll be eating anytime soon.
Same goes for clothing and other products that an Orthodox Jew can’t do a thing with, except give away to non Jewish colleagues.
That’s one of the factors that help. The other one is that I’ve studied marketing and strategic communication.
I had a great teacher who dissected prevalent methods that target our brain and subconscious functioning, with his students.
Simply knowing about these even cursorily, remove the effect of the aggressive messages for an important part.
There’s no need to be alert or anything, it works like a vaccine. If this blog ever attracts a significant number of visitors I’ll try to get in touch with this teacher, turn my attic upside down to find my notes from then, and finally share these, potentially money saving, tidbits of wisdom with my readers.
So why Coca Cola?
I guess my taste buds are responsible. And I happen to have very discriminating ones.…

I only like Sprite no coke for me. It may sound strange but it's true. Enjoy your coke you addict lol.
Each of us has our vices, some are explainable others not so.
I have not drank a soda in more than 30 years, however, I cannot give up coffee or start a morning without it.
Thank you for your wise words as always Prag. You are a wonderful person, and a shining example of a good Jew.
Shabbath Shalom.

I , as well, would pick coke over pepsi if I have a choice. poor pepsi. I think coke has more caffeine perhaps to give to give you that addiction. Regarding advertising, we are all guilty of the influence on us. I do not believe you are immune even tough you say you are.
In the states, I was addicted to Coca-Cola ZERO, the newer dietic coke, but they don't have that here in Israel. BUT HERE WE HAVE PEPSI MAX!!! I have NEVER NEVER NEVER been a pepsi drinker, til now! and wow, worth a try!
I feel your pain.
I feel your pain.
Coke is the only cola worth drinking, other than RC of course, but that's tough to find. Pepsi? Wretched. No marketing could ever convice me to drink that stuff.
coke tastes better
i think pepsi has a slightly sweeter taste that makes me gag and pepsi has more fizz in it too
probably not not but so says my tongue

i am totally a (diet) coke addict. before i read this post i was actually contemplating going downstairs to the fridge for a coke. now i've made my decision. see ya!
Since Michael Jackson set his hair afire doing a Pepsi commercial, I can't look at the stuff.
It's Coke for me!!!
It's Coke for me!!!
This is the absolute BEST coke ad I've seen. I personally don't drink any soda at all. If I'm really thirsty as a guest at someone's house for shabbos or something, I'll drink the soda at their table instead of asking for water, but I really would rather not drink soda.
I hope I did the link right.

Social-Well Sprite’ s ok too:)
Barbara-I think it’s the caffeine more than anything that attracts me in the coke:)
I still think it’s worse to be addicted to soda drinks, I’ll grow out of it I imagine.
I really do appreciate the nice things you say about me.
Chaverah-Not completely immune but the truth is that I rarely by brand names in clothing etc..
Emah-Pepsi Max is hot here too, sure beats regular Cola Light
Mia-As longa steh adds work when there’s sale it’s still safe:)
Amishav-RC? Hadn’t’ had in a looong while, although I remember it as being closer to the original as any other has.
Yingerman-Your tongue says what’s right for you!
Bec-A diet coke? In your condition??? I only drink diet coke at Simchas, there never seems to be any ‘real’ present.
You know which member of the family is in charge of the drinks.
Anon-As long as you stay in the family (Coca Cola Inc) you’re ok.
Kasamba-And they thought it was big business hiring a star…
Sarah with No H-Thanks for the link, indeed dot was a nice one.
Heimishin-If you don’t specifically either it’s logical.
Just buy the cheaper one in that case.

My grandmother drank Coke from when she was a kid until her docs said she couldn't anymore (at 90). It's the elixir of life...

Ezzie-Tell them to give me a ring, I'll be able to make them understand:)
Shy- so cool to find someone interested in Marketing.
I'll look up some old textbooks and get back to you bli neder.
David-Thanks for the compliment (I think) interestingly I barely touch alcohol.
I don't like wine, champagne or and sort of liquor much.
