שבועות

Shavuot is upon us, which is good because it means we get a long(er) weekend than usual.
My Non Jewish colleagues send me off with smirky smiles, wishing me a lot of fun.

While I can’t deny that I’m happy, it’s not that much fun.
It’s a pretty serious Holiday, with lots of praying and studying of the Torah involved.
Unlike the rich and delicious fleishig seuda (meal with meat) we have on the other Holidays, we get to eat yoghurt and cheesecake (whish as imperfect Jew I’m not so fond of) tonight.
Many men (me included?) will spend tonight wide awake listening to lectures on Torah topics or bury their face in uncomplicated Seforim(Torah books). They will start praying at 4.30 am and go home 2 hours later to get some sleep.
No computers, no talking about work, no getting stuck in traffic…just pray, learn and relax.
Not so much ‘fun’ but wonderful nonetheless.
Chag Sameach

Comments:
honesty is wonderful - (you write it as you feel it - )
it's the only way forward -

that is -
if you're looking forward to making these things more meaningful in the future...

p.s. - speaking more to myself than to you here -
i need to be uplifted and inspired and as of this moment - am feeling more trapped by my physicality than enlightened or inspired by spirituality-
Help!!
chag sameach!

Who doesn't like cheesecake?

I don't like cheesecake! Good yom tov.

me.

mmm.... CHEESEcake... :)

Come on, Prag... this is when Hashem gave us the Torah!!!!! Think about how awe-inpsiring that is!!! Come on, allow yourself to be inspired!

And the cheesecake? Yum! Sorry you only have yogurt, there are so many good milchig things out there to eat...

Hopw you enjoy your Shavuos!

Chag Sameach!

Prag..what do you consider fun ?

Chag sameach

I guess you could say we all have fun in different ways...Thanks for reminding me that it's not just a yom tov tonight but Shavuos, Shavuos. Shavuos. Okay, let's learn me some Torah!!!

btw, aren'tcha glad shabbos, the day of rest and eating meat, is tomorrow night already?

What does the holiday mean other than praying and studying?

Towik- When I feel like that sometimes a little Tehillim or a (good) sefer on a Godol can help
.
Shoshana-Luckily I’m not the only one.

Socialworker-So glad I’m not the only one:)

Kishmech- So did you get one as a Yom Tov gift and don’t know what to do now?

Ezzie- Cheese is enough apparently:)

Semgirl- You just send me a very unpleasant flashback from when I wa s14.
But not to digress I enjoy biking, barbecuing, going out with friends and board games.

Lvns-Thank

Okee- Indeed we should’ve learned and so I did (not enough though).
I was very glad about that as a matter of fact.

Lucy-It’s the day on Which the Torah was received so it’s actually a very meaningful and intense Holiday.

cheesecake and a good meal... excellent fuel for some meaningful learning. you can't stay up late learning on an empty stomach!

hope you had a good chag!

I never met a cheesecake I didn't like! (except a sugar-free one they were giving out samples of at the supermarket. Yuck!)

On the other hand, I HATE yogurt- and in this country, everybody loves it!
